Bride Laura came to us with this stunning, colorfu Bride Laura came to us with this stunning, colorful and unique @bhldn dress which fit her quite well, but needed some tweaking to fit like her dream dress.

Most of the alterations were in the lining, which if that doesn't fit right the overlay, aka self, will not lay, or fit, correctly either. So we added some bust darts for curvature, shortened the spaghetti straps so they didn't fall, took in the side seams so it graced her beautifully. We also raised the V back by adding hook and eyes to not take away from the embroidery and keep it symmetrical.

The interesting part in which you can see was her bustle. Due to the color of her dress, and our rule of thumb of always having our gowns look as though no one has touched them, we did her hand made button loops in the color of the embroidery of which they were attached, so it was hidden yet still functional. It was also important to keep the loops and buttons on the embroidered parts to ensure the weight of the gown could be held up without ripping, in addition to having the lining and self layers not be bustled together, so the weight could once again be properly distributed.

Laura, what a fun and unique project for our eyes that normally only see shades of white gowns. You are stunning inside and out. Cheers! Xx
There’s a lot to celebrate as today officially m There’s a lot to celebrate as today officially marks our one year of being open! 2020 has been full of surprises but we’re so thankful for everyone who has played a part in making it a success! The women of Birmingham, brides, moms, stores, wedding planners, and the entire wedding industry have been so welcoming to us we couldn’t be more thankful to all of you! In just 1 year (or 9 months because of Covid) we have served over 200 brides and their mothers, hired a team of people to keep up with the work, and been featured in About Town & Talk of Alabama! Stay tuned because we are so excited for what’s to come and thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!
Savannah came to us wanting to update her grandmot Savannah came to us wanting to update her grandmother's dress to be able to wear to a friend's wedding and to surprise her grandfather in the gown. This project makes my heart melt, and is exactly why SYC exists. The dress came from back in the day when her grandparents lived in Japan.

It initially fit her quite well, but it came to more of the details, such as waist length, it being too big in the chest & waist, plus removing some skirt fullness, and falling hems which needed to be fixed in order to modernize it.

Thank you Savannah for allowing us to preserve part of your family's history via clothing. We loved working on this, and with you! Xx
